Mayor’s Newsletter - January 2008

Long Range Planning
Village Council embarked on a long range planning project during 2007. Areas addressed included parks and recreation, safety services, zoning, annexation, aesthetics and beauty, infrastructure and facilities. In addition to the Mayor and Council, forty two residents participated on the six planning committees. One council person chaired each committee. Council then met on two Saturday mornings to review and assess the results. Many of the ideas are already in upcoming plans.  The minutes are attached for your information.

Village Water Plant
The county engineer has submitted drawings to the Village regarding the upgrade of the water plant. In the coming months you will see construction which will mean water ionization and a better quality water. The Village had planned a plant upgrade but found it too expensive. Improved water and lower rates are the two outcomes we expected from the sale of the plant.

Village Projects 2008
Construction will begin this spring on the replacement of Concord Drive including new water, sanitary and storm lines. The project, which will cost approximately $750,000, will be followed in 2009 with reconstruction of Arlington Drive. Sidewalks are planned on one side of both streets with no sidewalks on the cul-de-sacs.
McVay Drive will also be upgraded with curbs and gutters only at approximately $140,000. The completion of Arlington Drive in 2009 will put Village streets in great overall condition. This has been a goal of Village council and we appreciate resident cooperation during construction periods.

December Sewer Bills
Your most recent sewer charge was inadvertently calculated at the 2008 rate. Your February sewer bill will show a credit of nineteen cents ($0.19 per 1000 gallons used to correct the error. Your bi-monthly sewer bills are due the 15t of February, April, June, August, October and December 2008.

Street Lights
Residents can call directly to Ohio Edison at 1-888-544-4877 to report street light outages. They need to know your name, phone number, location of the problem and what is wrong.

Vacation Watch
Just a reminder that the Village Police Department offers "Vacation Watch" for residents. The Village Hall office has a form to fill out indicating when you will be gone, who might be watching the house and who to contact in case of an emergency. Chief Patterson enters the driveway, walks around the building and checks doors. The service is free.

Health Screenings
These are offered in the lobby of Village Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month. Blood pressure and glucose monitoring are free. Total cholesterol (includes glucose) is $5.00. Complete lipid profile - $15.00 (includes triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL/good and LDL bad cholesterol, cholesterol ratio and glucose. For most accurate results, fast for 10-12 hours prior to testing).

Trash Collection
Trash should be out at the curb no earlier than 24 hours prior to pick up on Tuesday. Please remember to remove empty containers in a timely manner to prevent cans being blown in the street.

Thanksgiving Project
Your generosity was overwhelming. The youth from Leroy United Methodist Church went door to door prior to Thanksgiving and collected approximately 3,500 items of food for families in the Cloverleaf School District.

Baseball and Softball
Westfield boys baseball and girls softball sign-ups will be February 23 and 24 from noon to four p.m. at the Cloverleaf Recreation Center.
